Our sister in faith, Dorothy Lucy Ibach (nee Wallis), 98, died October 30, 2023, in her home in Womelsdorf.   She was a twin daughter born to James Alfred and Harriett (Austin) Wallis on August 24,1925 in London, England, UK.  Dolly, as she was known, married Earl W. Ibach in London on July 7, 1945.  Dolly met Earl at a dance when Earl was stationed in London following his recuperation from a battle injury sustained in France during WWII.  They celebrated 75 years of marriage before Earl’s passing January 22, 2021, also at the age of 98.

 

     Dolly was a survivor having lived through the Great Depression, the bombing of London and severe rationing during WWII, sailing to America on the Queen Mary with other war brides, surgery and treatment for breast cancer at age 55 and colon cancer at age 66, and a case of shingles.  Dolly never complained, remaining a sweet, kind, pleasant, and supportive woman to all. 

 

     Dorothy is survived by her two children: Loretta Louise Barnes, widow of Daniel F. Barnes, and Robert Bruce “Tuffy” Ibach; two grandchildren: Stephen C. Barnes, husband of Wendy D. (Rehling), Jeffrey A. Barnes, husband of Kelly L. (Grabill); and four great grandchildren: Derek J., Danielle J., Brett S., and Brady D. Barnes.  She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Patricia (Keogh) widow of Dolly’s brother Walter Leslie Wallis of Toronto, Canada. In addition to her parents, Dolly was predeceased by her siblings and their spouses: half brother George (Dorothy Parrott) Austin; half sister, Nancy Wallis (Basil) Bullman; twin brothers James A. (Eve Ramsey) and Alfred E. (Violet Algrove) Wallis; brothers Joseph (Molly Harden) Wallis, Robert (Phyllis Newberry) Wallis, baby David Wallis, and her twin sister Joyce Alice Wallis who passed away before her second birthday.

 

    There are numerous nephews, nieces, great nephews, and great nieces in England, Wales, France, Germany, and Australia.

 

    During her life, Dolly was an active member of the former Zion United Church of Christ in Womelsdorf, belonging to its various women’s groups, and this year joined the UCC of Robesonia.  Dolly was a life member of both the Tulpehocken Settlement Historical Society, for which she volunteered many hours behind the scenes, and the Max W. Schaeffer VFW Post Home Association, Womelsdorf.  For many years Dolly volunteered for Meals On Wheels deliveries in Western Berks. 

 

     A woman of many creative talents, such as sewing, knitting, needlepoint, and counted cross-stitch, Dolly added her personal touches or made her own patterns and designs.  Dolly will be especially remembered for her original Santa Clauses and Belsnickel, and personalized knitted Christmas stockings. 

 

     Dolly was the superglue of the family.  She kept families on both sides of the Atlantic connected with one another and hosted many family gatherings.  Dolly was Earl’s constant supporter and advisor for his numerous civic endeavors.  She will be remembered for her wonderful cooking and baking, generous food portions and gentle manner.  The family she and Earl created were her pride and joy.

 

     The family would like to thank the staff of Bayada Hospice who provided unwavering care and comfort for Dolly and support for Bob and Loretta. In addition, many thanks and appreciation are extended to the relatives, neighbors, and friends for their dedication to Dolly’s welfare over the past two years.

     Memorial Services will be held Saturday, June 29, 2024 at Noon, from the MDR Church (formerly Zion United Church of Christ), 200 West High Street, Womelsdorf, with the Rev. Mary Etta Mest, officiating.  Burial will follow in Womelsdorf Union Cemetery.  Relatives and Friends may visit with the family Saturday, from 11:00am until time of service at the church.
