The Rev. Barry "Chuck" R. Galley
April 27, 1947  --  March 24, 2018

Galley RevChuck_01     The Rev. Barry “Chuck” Robert Galley was a former Stated Supply Pastor of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, serving here during 2012.  He guided the development and construction of the Phoebe Berks Campus in Wernersville in 1990, and was the Executive Director & Vice President of Operations until his retirement in 2012.

 

     The Rev. Galley, 70 years old, died on March 24, 2018 in his Cumru Township residence after a 6-year struggle with Lewy Body Dementia.

 

Galley RevChuckKim_Beach     He was the loving husband of Kim (Fogel) Galley.  They would have celebrated 35 years of marriage on April 9, 2018.

 

     Born in New Brunswick, NJ on April 27, 1947, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Mildred (Dammers) Galley.

 

     The Rev. Galley was the loving father of 5 children: Andrew, husband of Elizabeth of Port Deposit, MD; Heather, wife of Steven Hershey of Pen Argyl, PA; Timothy of Breinigsville, PA, Alayne, wife of Todd Klopp of Lititz, PA; and Katelyn, girlfriend of Vincent Guerrero of Billings, MT.  Other survivors include his brother Lawrence Galley, husband of Patricia of Jacksonville, Florida; 6 grandchildren: Jacquelyn, wife of Justin Sanchez, Cierra, Ashleigh, Jace, Gavin, Connor; and 1 great grandson, Nash; and his beloved pets: Lexi and Mosey.

 

Galley RevChuck_02     The Rev. Galley was a 1965 graduate of South River High School, NJ, a 1969 graduate of  Moravian College and a 1973 graduate of Moravian Theological Seminary.  He began his 36-year career with Phoebe Ministries in 1976, when he was called to serve as the Chaplain and Director of Admissions at Phoebe-Devitt Home in Allentown.  He guided the development and construction of the Phoebe Berks Campus in 1990 and lead the community as the Executive Director & Vice President of Operations until his retirement in 2012.  The Rev. Galley truly loved his job and was very devoted to serving the residents and staff of Phoebe Berks, where he knew every resident and employee by name.

 

     The Rev. Galley was strong in his faith, serving as an interim and stated supply pastor at various churches throughout Berks & Schuylkill Counties.  He was a member of St. John's (Hain's) UCC, Wernersville, PA.

 

Galley RevChuck_03     In his free time, the Rev. Galley was an avid runner, completing 7 marathons.  He loved the outdoors-- biking, kayaking and happy hours on the back patio.   He cherished time spent with family and loved his vacations.

 

     The family would like to thank Compassus Hospice for the compassionate care given to him.

 

     A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 2:00pm at Phoebe Berks Village, 1 Reading Drive, Wernersville, PA 19565.
