Helen L. Risser
October 1, 1915  --  March 6, 2017

Risser Helen_Obit_2017     Our sister in faith, Helen L. Risser, 101, of Robesonia, a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Robesonia, passed away Monday, March 6, 2017 at Stone Ridge-Towne Center, Myerstown.

 

     Born on October 1, 1915, in Heidelberg Township, Helen was the daughter of the late Harry P. and Lizzie R. (Stamm) Risser.

 

     Helen was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s UCC in Robesonia.  At the time of her passing, at the age of 101 years old, she was the oldest living member of St. Paul's UCC.  She volunteered as sexton for many years.  She was a choir member for 40 years and soloist.  She was also a former Sunday School Teacher.

 

     Helen lived most of her life in Robesonia until moving to Stoneridge in Myerstown in December of 2001.

 

     Helen was a life member of Pioneer Hose #1 and Robesonia Fire Company.

 

     Helen worked in the silk mill in Robesonia sewing stockings.  During WWII, she worked at the defense plant making radio tubes.  Following the war she was employed as a domestic until retiring in 1980.

 

     Helen was preceded in death by two sisters, Catherine M. Lamm, and Ruth R. Risser; a brother, Miles R. Risser; a step sister, Irene Detweiler; a niece, Nancy L. Kinden; and a cousin, Arlene S. Miller.

 

     Services will be held at 11:00AM, Friday, March 10, at Lamm & Witman Funeral Home, 243 W. Penn Ave., Wernersville, with her pastor, the Rev. Dr. Benjamin Motz, officiating, and with the Rev. George Miller co-officiating.  A viewing will be held from 10:00-11:00AM, Friday, at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in Heidelberg Cemetery following the funeral service.

 

     In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s UCC Church, 301 W. Penn Ave., Robesonia, PA 19551.

    Internment:  Friday, March 10 following the funeral service,

                            at the Heidelberg Cemetery, Robesonia

 

    Prayers of Remembrance:  Sunday, March 12 during the 10:25am Worship Serivce,
                        at St. Paul's UCC, Robesonia
